Ashleigh wrote The community must be allowed to share power with the police, be allowed decision-making capabilities under all three of the components, and effectively lead the police.”(Oliver 2008)
Community members under the community policing have been given the role of being the eyes and ears of the community, forming patrols, and confronting criminal and disorderly individuals.
The neighborhood watch program is an example of where the community has stepped in to help the police. With the community looking out for its own so to speak there has been a reduction in crime because there has been more prying eyes in the areas. With all the good that this program has done there have also been the few individuals who have overstepped their boundaries.
What is a key component in securing the desired level of commitment from the community? I would have to say giving the community a voice. The reason I feel that this is important is because I feel a community would know what type of programs would be the most effective in certain neighborhoods. If the citizens feel that their voice is not being heard then they are less likely to participate in programs that can be beneficial for everyone.
Another important factor is creating counsels or boars where the community can elect members to represent them and meet with the police to discuss what methods are currently being utilized and whether or not they are working and what methods they might try next.

response Ashleigh, The community and the police need to work together in ensuring the security and the safety. All levels of poling need therefore to embrace Community policing. In securing the community, it is good to understand the commitment required from both the police and the community. It is also good to understand that in order to secure the community; there is a need for the community to share certain powers with the police. Since the police officers control the patrolling, it is good that the community will need to be involved in decision-making.
It is good that the members of the community involved in community policing become an actual part of policing, by even taking part in the patrol, controlling the criminals and even dealing with the disorderly individuals. Another good aspect of the community involvement is the use of the watch program where the community looks and speaks on its own. It is good the program has been able to bear significant results in reductions of crime. Rather it would be bad if the members of the community involved in community policing overstep their boundaries. There must be extents to which the community is involved in the policing activities. It would be bad if a member of the community without the necessary protection suffers in the hands of criminals in a confrontation.
It is good to understand the type of the most appropriate involvement programs the community needs to apply in their neighborhood. Creating boards and counsels to represent the community in policing matters is also a very important factor. It is bad if the community does not have representation in policing since they would not be involved in the relevant decision making on their (Oliver, 2008).
