    Hi everyone,

I’m posting this more in hope than in expectation – but the hope is that someone out there knows of an agent who is interested in Historical Fiction set further back than the 19th/20th century.

My manuscript is set in the plague years of the 14th century, but while there are best-selling comp titles set in the same era, the feedback from a recent agent 121 was that there is a relatively small pool of agents willing to represent this subset of the genre. Keyword searches on AgentMatch tend to confirm this.

So – can anyone out there offer any guidance / hints / contacts that might help me in my search? Deeply grateful for any help at all.

    Thanks and best wishes,

    Howard

    Hi Howard,

My advice would be to select about 10 to 20 historical fiction published within the last couple of years, especially debuts (not specific to one particular historical era) and then you have 2 options:

    – You can go to the bookstore and check the acknowledgments section at the end of the book as pretty much all authors thanks their agent in there

    – Google the author’s name + literary agent to find out who their agents are

Once you have the agents’ name you can check on their page if they represent all historical fiction regardless of the era or if they have any preferences or currently looking for any specific era.

    Good luck!

Thank you Laure, that’s a good idea. I’ll get down to my local Waterstones today.
