  • Editor or Agent?

Hi. I feel like I should know this, but having seen editors on the MSWL site, am wondering why one would submit to an editor instead of to an agent. Anyone? Thanks!

Hi. I assume MWSL are a publisher, so their editors will generally be for writers they have signed up. Editors review writing and agents represent writers to publishers. Two different jobs.

No, MWSL is the Manuscript Wish List, where agents post what they’re looking for. And so, apparently, do editors… I don’t understand why editors would be in the mix.

Good question! Am intrigued to know the official answer too. I went onto MSWL and picked an editor at random – turns out he is an acquiring editor who works for a publisher that accepts submissions from unagented authors so maybe that’s a reason? (Obviously a sample size of one is hardly representative but hey it’s one possibility ☺️)

Ah…. an acquiring editor… That could make sense. So who best to submit to, if that is indeed the answer?
