We have absolutely loved seeing Townhouse get busier, with many of you making connections and friends. Feedback Friday, in particular, is getting more and more popular with every week, which is wonderful. While we know Townhouse isn’t perfect, we’re working hard behind the scenes to make it an even better experience for you all. In the meantime, we’ve compiled some top tips to hopefully help make participating in Feedback Friday a little easier.

1. “I wish I could easily search Townhouse to find my threads”

We hear you. The downside of Feedback Friday getting busier is there are more and more threads to scroll through. We do have a handy tip for this though. Go to ‘News Feed’ and click on your profile picture (see screenshot), then go to the tab that says ‘Forums’ and you’ll be able to see all the threads that you yourself have started (see screenshot).

2. “I wish I could find threads in my genre so that I know which ones to give feedback on”

This is a two-part answer. Firstly, we want to make it clear that you don’t have to only give feedback to work in your genre. It can actually be really beneficial to read and give feedback on other genres. However, we understand the desire to find threads in your genre. This one is on you guys a little bit. When you make a post, at the bottom you have the option to add a tag. You can add as many as you like, but for Feedback Friday we recommend tagging your post with your genre. Then, once you’ve posted your thread, if you click on the tag at the bottom you’ll see all threads that have been tagged with that same genre. We’ll make sure to mention in Fridays email that you can do this. The more people who do it, the better this search function will be!

3. I’m in a different timezone so can’t post at 10am GMT on a Friday

You don’t have to! 10am GMT is when the Feedback Friday forum opens, but it will remain open all through the week until the following Friday. You can post at any point during the week. Harry will be checking in and answering as many threads as he can throughout the week, so you won’t miss out if you don’t post as soon as the forum opens.

4. Townhouse is slow/I’m being served with an error

Our servers were not quite prepared for the amount of people who would post on Friday. It’s a good problem to have, but rest assured our tech team is working hard in the background to improve this. Please bear with, and if you find Townhouse isn’t loading or it’s extremely slow, try checking in later in the day. Feedback Friday is open all week. You don’t have to post on Friday in order to get feedback.

We hope this helps, and do keep sending in your suggestions for improvement. We have a long list of things we’re working on, and your feedback is so helpful.

Best wishes,

Becca (Head of Membership)

I’m trying to share my work but the formatting is wrong.]]> https://jerichowriters.com/townhouse/?p=57341/#post-57340 Mon, 08 Jan 2024 17:56:11 +0000 Katie Day If you are finding your work looks a bit funny when copied and pasted (with errant symbols, font names etc) we’ve found a solution!

1. Go back to your comment or post.

2. Click the three dots at the top right corner of your comment.

3. Select ‘Edit’ and either:

– Remove the extra bits by hand

– Delete your work and try to paste again. This time, when you right click, you should see an option to paste without formatting. On my computer (Windows) it says ‘Paste as plain text’ but yours might say ‘Paste and Match Style’ if you are on a Mac.

The short of it:

Each Friday around 10.00 am BST (or wherever you are!) the infamous Harry’s Friday email will land in your inbox containing a little ‘Feedback Friday’ writing challenge. Harry will invite you to share your response to the challenge (more on that below). Then, he’ll pop by and offer feedback. Sounds good, don’t you think?

Great! Now you’ve found the right place, you can put your feet up and breathe a sigh of relief. But don’t relax just yet. To avoid any mishaps, please make sure to read the following details carefully as they contain everything you need to get the most out of Feedback Friday.

The long of it:

  • Challenges will be set each Friday around 10:00 am via Harry’s Friday email
  • If you’d like to take part, make sure to share your response to the challenge as a post in this week’s mini-forum. If you post elsewhere, he might not see it!
  • Do make sure to read any guidelines Harry includes in his post.
  • Please do stick to the challenge. If Harry asks for elevator pitches, now might not be the time to upload the seventh instalment in your epic fantasy series complete with illustrations and recipes. We have a separate place for you to share your work here.
  • When adding an extract which includes mention of potentially sensitive topics, please include this header before your work: ‘Please note, the following passage includes mention of…’ and include any relevant trigger warnings that may apply.
  • Harry will give feedback to as many members as possible but will be prioritising Premium Members first and anyone else if he gets the chance. (If you’re not a Premium Member, you can check out the options here)
  • We encourage you to share feedback with each other too. The more feedback shared, the better.
  • There’ll be a couple more yummy extras to announce, but we’ll let Harry tell you about those.

As Harry will be focussing on offering feedback, please leave any technical issues or questions as comments on this post or email us at info@jerichowriters.com
